Just prior to 5pm on Sunday, August 7th, 2022, Rob Welch and Davy Jones were able to rescue two dogs from drowning in the pond. Approximately two to three dogs have already perished in the pond in the last three years. The pond liner is very slippery. Even adults have a difficult time getting out once in the water. Last year, a neighbor's child fell in. Attentive parents were able to act quickly to get the toddler out of the water but the father needed assistance from another adult to get out. These stories highlight the drowning hazard associated with this required body of water.
In early 2021, to keep geese off of people's property, the Board, with the help of good-intentioned volunteers, erected PVC tubes with two sets of string in the easement around the perimeter of the pond in support of a larger effort to dissuade geese from nesting in the pond area. When asked by a volunteer if the Board had obtained the permission of all the property owners to erect the fence the director indicated that they had. This was not the case. A number of residents who found this fence in their yard reported that no member of the Board had discussed the barrier with them at all.
The erection of the barrier in the easement was in direct violation of the plat.
The Board was notified about the violation and the risk to property owners and the association but chose to leave the fence in place.
It was finally removed by the current board nearly a year after its installation.
